I am taking four classes, three in Spanish, and in the other class we will be taking field trips to learn about Peru’s Culture and volunteer. I had been looking forward to taking classes in just Spanish and so far I am enjoying it. Its nice being able to completely understand everything that is going on and I have also been of some help to my classmates. Me and another classmate have been the go to people for translating to the class. My class schedule is also a big change but I love it since classes don’t start till around three in the afternoon.
On Monday I have class from four to seven in the afternoon. Having class on Monday can be somewhat good and bad. If you have plans in the morning than you wont be bored but then you have to wake up early. Or you could just lie in bed and rest up because you were up doing your homework the night before. Monday’s class is advanced conversation so for me this class has been fairly easy. Last week we had to go out around campus and ask other students a few questions on what their favorite Spanish band and singer were. It was a nice little conversation activity for many to practice speaking Spanish. So far this class is going well and should be of great help in improving my speaking skills.
On Tuesday I have class from three to six. The class is called Peruvian literature and it is my favorite class so far. I like this class the most because it’s not about learning the language, it’s about the history and the culture of the country we are living in. Last week in class we read a story about an Incan god who everyone in the village thought was just a bum. He impregnates the Incan woman god of a village without touching her and when the child is born she has the child crawl to the dad, which ends up being the bum of the village. She then runs away with her child as the Incan god shows his true form, dressed in gold clothing. She did not turn around and kept running and fell into the river where she and her child turned into stones. If you heard this story you would think its unreal but its what I like about this class. We read stories and myths of the Incas and they are just so fascinating and interesting.
On Wednesday class goes from 2:30 till 5:20 and its called advanced grammar. So far this class has been the least appealing since we are going over some basics.
For the last class we took a field trip to see an art gallery of Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali. I was in aw with how amazing the paintings looked. The realism section was my favorite because they were paintings of real life things. There was a painting that showed a newborn lying in a crib and the detail was just amazing, it actually looked like a photograph.
So far I have no complaints with my classes or schedule, its perfect. I am looking forward to the coming weeks of class, especially Peruvian literature!
