School here so far has been quite easy just like back at UNK with Spanish classes. For conversation class we have had other Spanish-speaking students from UPC come in and “help” in getting us to talk more. We have also been doing speeches which are kind of fun. It’s been a bit more enjoyable than UNK Spanish classes. All I was doing back then was reading stories, talking about them in class some more, and then explaining it on the tests. Here it’s a lot less of that, but it is still just as easy. I would say I am very fortunate to of have learned Spanish at home because now I can spend a bit more time enjoying the culture of Peru. Another perk of already knowing Spanish is being able to help my classmates out in and out of the classroom. It may just be the usual how do I say this or what does this mean but I know that it helps them out.
In the Peruvian literature class I feel quite helpful since its a lot of material in Spanish and the teacher doesn’t know enough Spanish to translate the material to English. Daniel and I take turns translating the material through out class. It also helps me since I am already hearing it and then I say it in English to the class I learn the material much better. This class is still by far my favorite one. The professor is very passionate about what he teaches us and he even draws some settings so the class can picture what he is talking about. We finally took our test this week for his class and he went through everything that was going to be on the test. This professor sets us up for success! It is one of the classes I’ve heard everyone is doing well in compared to the rest.
Grammar class is also going well even though there have been a lot more assignments lately. Even for me that speaks Spanish, I spend a couple hours doing the assignments so that’s when I feel lucky and then think of how much more time everyone else has to spend on these assignments. We have now taken three tests and around eight quizzes. Many people have been struggling even me. The tests are sometimes quite confusing even after the teacher has explained it a bit. I hope he sees that the class is having some trouble and changes up the class or makes his tests a bit clearer.
