After being in Peru for more than three weeks I can now get around on my own fairly well. All it took was getting lost a couple times and some help from the kind Peruvian strangers. While on these adventures I was with a group of friends (from UNK). I can say that about 90% of the time we hang out after class. There is always something to do. Who wants to be at home alone? We can just hang out at sanguichon (a sandwich shop like Jimmy Johns but warm sandwiches), at a park, go to the movies, walk around at El Polo or El Yochi (they are two of the closest malls). With just doing these simple things great memories have been made. Even on the taxi or combi rides! It’s always funny how whenever I go up and ask for a taxi I get a decent offer but when one of the girls goes up and asks they always beat what I got offered. So for a tip: always have one of the girls from the group ask for a taxi!
Well the most interesting thing that happened this week with the group was the discos that we went to in one of the districts, Miraflores. Discos down here are really fun. We first started of by going to eat. It took us a while to decide where to go because once you walk down the food market every waiter is showing you their menu and are trying to convince you to eat at their restaurant. What convinced us to go eat at one of the restaurants was the pisco sour offer one of the managers offered. Pisco sour is the traditional drink they have down here and many restaurants offer you a free one just so u can eat at their restaurant. The food their was great and after we got access to their disco which was right next to the restaurant so lucky us! The discos here don’t get going till about 11 or past midnight so when we first got there it wasn’t all that good so we got some drinks and then moved on to the next disco. By the time we had gone to our third disco the party was going. It was one of the first nights out at the disco and it was pretty fun. At the end of the night when it was time to go home it was my turn to get us a taxi. I’m not sure why 40 soles sounded good at that moment to get us from Miraflores to UPC but I took it. No one else said it was a bad deal up until the next day. “Why did you pay 40 soles, it should have only cost 15.” But it was a great drive back!
